All too often there is a frustration in the business world that your local knowledge and understanding of the place where you live and work is overlooked.

Business Solent has created a way for the business voice and expertise to be heard through input in the many Action Groups and Alliances.

Businesses identify key areas to address, resulting in the establishment of Action Groups and Alliances to tackle these challenges.

What is an Action Group or Alliance?

It's not a talking shop or committee – we are all too busy for that.

Instead it is a meeting of interested and committed business leaders who like to get things done.

By developing ideas together through an Action Group, the business community can address particular issues or better engage with the planning process and local government.

Action Groups and Alliances can be area specific or Solent-wide.

As an example of the successful Actions Groups and Alliances in Southampton:

The Transport Alliance brought together the views of businesses, Southampton City Council, Chamber of Commerce, Hampshire Economic Partnership and Transport for South Hampshire to create a single voice. They have produced a policy document for the city and are regularly consulted on transport issues in the city.
The Future Southampton group campaigned for a masterplan for the city and has recently published their own ideas for making the most of the city centre. The group is made up of architects, designers and developers with an intimate knowledge of the city and is assisting in the ongoing masterplanning process with the local council
The Cruise Partnership brought together interested parties in the city's cruise industry and brought about improvements in signage, transport and the customer experience.
The Digital Southampton Action Group is working with leaders in the world of digital technology with the aim of making Southampton a hub of hi-tech innovation.
