Bournemouth and Poole are among a minority of local authorities to continue with selective education – both towns have two grammar schools and eight secondary schools. There is an FE college that covers the two towns.

Wimborne has two secondary schools and nearby is the independent Canford School.

There are three secondary schools in Weymouth as well as two colleges.

Voted the UK's Number One New University according to the 2009 & 2010 editions of The Guardian University Guide, Bournemouth University has one of the highest graduate employability rates in the UK with 91 per cent of graduates proceeding to employment or further study within six months of completing study.
